In the morning or the afternoon you will be picked up by our air conditioned vehicle which will then transfer you to the floating village on the great Tonle Sap Lake. Our journey begins by witnessing the beautiful rice paddies and the daily lifestyles of the local people before arriving at the boat dock. Here we will board a quaint local boat which will take us to the amazing floating village for your unique kayaking experience.  On arrival, you will be amazed as you kayak gently through this floating village where you will be welcomed by warming smiles from the humble Cambodian people who live on this fantastic lake. Our professionally trained guide will be able to explain the local customs on how the local people live, work, and trade before stopping a great spot for a stunning sunset over great Tonle Sap Lake before transferring back by boat where our air conditioned vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Siem Reap town.

SIEM REAP – STREET FOOD TOUR BY SCOOTER AFTER DARK

Pick up for your hotel lobby at the appointed time (shortly before 6PM), jump on the back of your scooter and be driven out to the popular ‘Street 60’ night market. Street 60 is where the locals go to eat at the many roadside restaurants then wander down the main street looking at the many wears for sale – ranging from shoes & clothing to toys & 75c shops. Then we head to a local house where they’ll cook up some tasty fried water bugs, frogs, and crickets & if you’re up to it, taste them all & wash them down with local whiskey. Scooter through the town to a local restaurant – the menu ranges from roasted beef to crocodile & many Khmer foods (if specific dietary needs are required, inform us before the tour and in most cases this can be accommodated). Last stop is to a local beer garden, here in Siem Reap the locals go to beer garden rather than a pub as in the western countries. Of course time for more foods & beers (or a soft drink) and enjoy the local entertainment – normally a local band. This concludes the evening’s tour. Time to scooter you back to your hotel – or – anyplace in the night life area if you want to continue on by yourselves.

SIEM REAP – EARLY BIRD BIKING

Our driver will pick up you from your hotel in Siem Reap and transfer to the Caltex Gas Station where we will meet other riders and riding guide. After the usual introductions and briefing of the itinerary we head out along Road No.6 to the West Baray. This 11th century man-made lake (it’s big – 8 x 2.2km) makes a photogenic way point. Next we stop at the nearby village to see locals making Kralan (Sticky rice steam in Bamboo), also see very friendly Kids going school. Continue the ride along quiet roads to the Angkor Wat grounds (we cannot view the temple or ruins on this tour – we ride around through beautiful ‘shady treed’ roads). Shortly after emerging from the wooded area we start our progressive breakfast. First drinks/hot tea stop. Then we continue to ride to Siem Reap town to stop at our main breakfast restaurant. Here we recommend trying our local Kuy Tev (Hot Noodle Soup) or ordering another breakfast. We have local coffee to try also. Our driver will transfer you from the restaurant to your hotel, arriving around 9am (NB if you plan on doing another tour starting before 9am – we have a return early option). Note: E-bike is available to upgrade, surcharge for E-bike is USD 25 per person.

We will be inspecting vegetable farms while being informed about the fresh ingredients we’ll be using to make lunch. Then we attend the main cooking class – conducted by a local family. Day 1: Siem Reap – Mechrey Floating Village – Kroch Village
08:30 our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap to transfer to Tonle Sap Lake, on the way we will stop to visit a local pagoda to see and learn about Buddhist Monks. On arrival at the lake, we embark on (a safe) boat to cruise through the lake to visit Mechrey Floating Village. This village is considered one of the last of the authentic floating villages in Tonle Sap lake. It has more than 100 families living in their houses which are built on bamboo rafts. You will see the rest of the floating village shops, a school and fishing activities. Return to boat pier and transfer to Kroch Village. Enjoy a homemade lunch with our Kroch family and then spend time to walk through the village. Bicycle to other nearby villages through scenic rice paddies seeing the locals working the farms, rice paddies and fishing activities. Return to the local house for a refreshment then start our cooking class (dinner) that lead by family member. Cooking classes can be managed by all type of people; small kids can join with their parents. Dinner and overnight with the local family.

Day 1: Siem Reap – Phnom Kulen
08:00 our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap to transfer to foot of Kulen Hill, it will take 80 minutes driving. On arrival, we will get ready for 2 hours hiking up to the top of the hill, en route we will get a few stops to visit Preah Ang Chop Pagoda, local villages/farms. About 11:00AM we will arriving the 1000 lingas, visit the ancient carving in the river bed which dated from early 9th century and then we continue to walk to Youth campsite to have lunch. After lunch we take a little rest to admire the nature and swim in the river, then continue to trek to deeper jungle to waterfall (32-meter high) and reclining Buddha. 4PM get to our campsite which is close to the waterfall, on the riverside, tent set up, dinner preparation by Merry Travel Asia’s crews… enjoy swimming pool, dinner with fire camp, overnight in Adventure tent.

Located in the heart of Siem Reap town, Wat Damnak is one of the most beautiful pagodas in town with French colonial architecture reflecting its history and a large garden filled with statues. Bring candles and incense sticks to the pagoda and participate in a private good luck blessing ceremony, performed by local monks that reside at the temple. A little longer ritual where you will be covered in water blessed by the monks. For this ritual you can change into a sarong so your clothing remains dry – a traditional way which is believed pass on the good luck of the gods. Afterwards, a sacred thread will be tied around your wrist. This will protect you from any evil spirits or accidents. Before you continue on your journey, you will receive a small keepsake from the monks to remind you of this special moment.

Running water in Siem Reap is scarce and locals often have to trek to neighboring villages in an effort to locate potable water. Engage in a hands-on activity and help to build a water filter together with local workers which will allow rain or lake water to be treated to a standard that it is drinkable. In the afternoon, enjoy lunch with a member of staff who will tell you more about the surrounding villages and the problems which are encountered by the local communities. After lunch you will take a water filter personally to a village. Together with a local staff member you will install the filter at a local home where the family will be briefed on how to use and maintain the filter. Stroll through the village and learn how the people have adapted to the missing of the basic amenities of electricity and running water. Return to Siem Reap knowing that you have made an impact on the lives of one Cambodian family.

The main exhibition hall is in a pleasant two-story open-air building featuring panels and pictures and information about Angkor, the Bayon, and ceramics unearthed near the temples. You’ll meet here with a project archaeologist (Restoration Expert) and archaeologist who will then escort you on a private tour of the Bayon’s East causeway which is currently undergoing restoration. This area is closed to the general public but open to you via our special insider access. Continue visit with the guide to the part of Angkor Thom including Bayon, Bapoun, terrace of Lepper King and Terrace of Elephant, South gate. Meet a young local artist who will tell you his life story and how he became involved with art. The artist now works with a local charity, Colors of Cambodia. The project was set up by William Gentry in 2003 and aims to support children between five and sixteen years of age from the most underprivileged schools in the Siem Reap area. Enjoy a field trip to Angkor and its rural surroundings and receive a short lesson from the artist on how to paint and to reproduce the Angkor temples in your own way. You will also be accompanied by a local student who will also be there to paint and to share their experience with you. Orphanages in Cambodia take care of many, many children – some orphaned and some from families who are just too poor to look after their children. Orphanages here are supported and can operate thanks to support from NGOs and other charities – there is little or no government support yet.
