Breakfast at the hotel.
Our guide and driver pick you up from the hotel at 8.00 am to visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are two of the most striking buildings in the capital and are considered some of the finest examples of Khmer architecture. They were initially constructed in 1866 by the French. The Royal Palace is home to the current King Sihamoni. The neighboring Silver Pagoda stands out in its own distinctive way. The floor consists of 5,329 solid silver tiles to which the building owes its name. The building houses many gold and jeweled Buddha statues including the highly prized 17th-century baccarat crystal Buddha. Other important buildings that can be found within the compound include Wat Preah Keo Morokat, where Royal ceremonies are performed, and stupas such as King Ang Doung Stupa – the burial site of former King Norodom. Continue to drive to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Toul Sleng was a high school prior to 1975, an interrogation prison known as S-21 during the Khmer Rouge era and today it is a genocide museum. It tells the sad story of the thousands of innocent Cambodian people who were tortured on its grounds. Walking through the narrow corridors and former classrooms of the buildings will give you an eerie feeling of being part of Cambodia’s turbulent past. The stories of the victims are documented and some torture devices are on display for visitors to learn about the suffering the people endured. Photographs were taken of each prisoner passing through the prison and hundreds of the haunting black and white photos are now on display in the museum. While this experience may be depressing, it is recommended to visit in order to truly understand the cruel methods of control the Khmer Rouge implemented over the country.
Next, we continue to Central Market, a landmark building in the capital, the art deco Psar Thmei (literally ‘New Market’) is often called the Central Market, a reference to its location and size, the guide will walk you through the market and finally, bring you the food hall where you can taste all kind of foods, snacks, fruits, drinks as your lunch. After lunch, visit the National Museum which houses Khmer art and sculptures from different periods of Cambodian history. Return to the hotel for refreshments.
At 4.30 pm, visit Wat Unalom (Buddhist Monastery), this pagoda serves as the headquarters for one of Cambodia’s most revered Buddhist patriarchs. In addition to the pagoda, there is a post-Angkorean stupa at this monastery. Continue to visit Wat Phnom, which is the center of Phnom Penh that gives the city its name. At 27 meters above sea level, it is the highest point in the area, and as a town gradually grew up around it, the settlement became known as Phnom Penh, the hill of Penh. It is the zero point of the city. Enjoy the boat ride along the Mekong River to view the sunset and picnic dinner on board includes drinks and a class of red wine. Located atop the mountain, Prasat Phnom Da is one of the most significant temples in the region. It is an ancient temple dating to the Funan era of the 1st to 6th century. I believe it is also the largest temple of this type. It stands alone atop the mountain and can easily be seen from afar if it was not shielded by trees.

There are seahorses and nudibranchs as well as shrimp and crustaceans. But you will also be delighted by the rainbow of parrotfish and boxfish, cuttlefish, and yellow goatfish. Some of the larger animals you may spot include the odd turtles gliding by and stunning blue-ribbon tail rays. The coral gardens are a riot of color and triggerfish and barracuda provide another point of interest, while you could even spot stingrays and leopard sharks.
Take the plunge and dive or snorkel with us in one of the last unexplored places on Earth. Our full-day trips depart at 10.00 am from our diving center on Koh Rong sanloem island Saracen Bay and go around 40mins out to Koh Kon, Koh Rong Samloem to bring you the best visibility and dive sites this area has to offer. Once at the islands, divers will do their first dive (we aim for at least 50 or 60min dives, no 40 min diving here!) and the snorkelers can get in and explore the underwater world. Unless otherwise requested, all dives will take place at different dive sites.
During the long surface interval, we will have lunch and there’s time for relaxing, maybe taking a walk on the beach, swimming, or jumping off the boat – the choice is yours. After the second dive, we will head back to our office on Koh Rong Sanloem Saracen Bay, aiming to arrive back around 4 pm.
