Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary

Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary, located in southwestern Cambodia, is a protected area known for its unique mangrove ecosystem. Covering approximately 245.91 km², the sanctuary is home to numerous islands separated by a maze of bays and channels. Visitors can explore the 600-meter-long concrete mangrove walk, which leads to a 15-meter-high observation tower offering panoramic views. The entrance fee is 5,000 riel (US$1.25) for foreigners and 3,000 riel (US$0.75) for Cambodians.

Established in 1993, Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary was created to protect the area’s rich biodiversity and unique mangrove forests. The sanctuary has faced challenges over the years, including the destruction of mangrove forests for shrimp farming and large-scale charcoal production. However, ongoing conservation efforts and political stability have helped improve the situation, making it a popular destination for eco-tourism.

Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Koh Kong Province, about 5.5 km southeast of Koh Kong City. To reach the sanctuary, visitors can take a moto or tuk-tuk ride, which costs around US$5-10 for a round trip. Alternatively, boat tours are available from Koh Kong, offering a chance to explore the sanctuary’s interior and visit fishing hamlets.
