Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chom Shrine
The Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chom Shrine, nestled in the heart of Siem Reap, Cambodia, is a revered spiritual site known for its cultural and historical significance. The shrine houses the sacred statues of Preah Ang Chek and Preah Ang Chom, believed to be the guardian spirits of the city. Local legend holds that these statues were originally located in Angkor Wat and were moved to their current location for safekeeping. The shrine is a popular place of worship where devotees come to offer incense, flowers, and prayers, seeking blessings for good fortune, health, and protection. Visitors to Siem Reap often include a visit to this shrine to experience the spiritual ambiance and observe the local customs and traditions.
Not far from the shrine, within the Royal Independence Gardens, you can witness a unique natural spectacle: the colony of fruit bats that inhabit the towering trees. Known locally as “flying foxes,” these large bats are a fascinating sight, particularly during dusk when they take to the sky in search of food. The presence of these fruit bats adds a touch of wild charm to the serene gardens, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. The bats are harmless and are a vital part of the ecosystem, playing a crucial role in seed dispersal and pollination.
