Cambodia is one of the last refuges for several critically endangered, stunning bird species. This tour offers a rare chance to see these incredible birds while supporting community-based conservation efforts through SVC. The birding mainly occurs in scenic dry forests, and accommodations include one night in safari-style tents and other nights at a dedicated community ecolodge.

Day 1: Birding at Bengal Florican Conservation Area & Tmat Boey

Starting with a 5:00 AM pickup from your hotel, we’ll drive two hours to Bengal Florican Conservation Area, where breakfast awaits. In the morning, bird guides hope to spot the critically endangered Bengal Florican, along with species like Sarus Crane, storks, reed warblers, marsh harriers, and more. Afterward, we travel to Tmat Boey Ecolodge, stopping to bird in dry forests and possibly see the White-rumped Pygmy Falcon. Arriving by 3:00 PM, we settle into the lodge, with a chance to spot the White-shouldered Ibis roosting at dusk. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at Tmat Boey.

Day 2: Birding at Tmat Boey

From 4:30 AM to 6:00 PM, this day is dedicated to spotting the critically endangered Giant and White-shouldered Ibis, with local conservation guides ensuring successful sightings—our guides have a perfect record. You’ll also have opportunities to observe nocturnal species like Spotted Wood Owl and Brown Fish Owl, as well as a remarkable diversity of woodpeckers, including the Black-headed, Great Slaty, and rare Rufous-bellied Woodpeckers. Supported by trained local guides, you’ll search for other key species such as Indian Spotted Eagle, Collared Falconet, and Indochinese Bushlark. The day includes flexible schedules, with breakfast and lunch at birding sites and a local dinner at the eco-lodge.

Day 3: Tmat Boey Birding Continues

Similar to Day 2, the focus remains on exploring dry forest habitats to locate elusive species and core conservation targets. Guides will assist in tracking the day roosts of nocturnal owls like the Brown Fish Owl and Spotted Wood Owl. Enjoy ongoing birdwatching amid the lush, remote forest and learn about local conservation efforts. Fresh meals will be provided at the sites, and the day concludes with a relaxing evening at the ecolodge.

Day 4: From Tmat Boey to Boeng Toal Vulture Restaurant

We wake early at 4:30 AM for the final birding in Tmat Boey, focusing on any remaining species to see before departing. After breakfast, we leave at 12:30 PM, stopping in T’beng town to resupply, then drive approximately three hours to Boeng Toal Vulture Restaurant. Arriving around 3:30 PM, we settle into safari-style tents and explore the dry forest in the late afternoon—an excellent chance to spot certain species before the vultures are fed the next day. The evening includes a hot dinner, with optional owling to try and spot the Oriental Scops Owl and Large-tailed Nightjar before resting for an early start the following morning.

Day 5: From Boeng Toal Vulture Restaurant back to Siem Reap

Early at 4:30 AM, join the vulture feeding spectacle at Boeng Toal, where up to fifty critically endangered vultures—White-rumped, Slender-billed, and Red-headed—gather to feed on a supplied carcass, supporting conservation efforts. A breakfast is provided on-site. Afterward, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant and visit Beng Mealea, a stunning jungle temple with diverse birdlife, including possible winter migrants like the White-throated Rock Thrush. In the late afternoon, we return to Siem Reap and drop you at your hotel.
