At 7:30 AM, our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap and transfer you to our bike shop, where you’ll meet your friendly tour guide for a briefing and bike fitting. Then, we’ll set off on an exciting ride through the lovely streets of Siem Reap, along the riverside, as we visit the lesser-known temples of Angkor, starting with Banteay Kdei, East Mebon, and Preah Khan.
After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant by West Baray, we’ll continue cycling through vibrant villages en route to your charming farmhouse. Along the way, we’ll make meaningful stops to interact with local families, observe their daily lives in the rice fields, and visit a Buddhist temple to learn about the teachings of Buddhism. You’ll even receive a monk’s blessing for good fortune and prosperity—a true local tradition!
Next, we’ll ride a section of the ancient Angkor Highway, built in the 12th-13th centuries, before arriving at the farmhouse. Here, you’ll be warmly welcomed by the hosts, enjoy some refreshing drinks, and take a leisurely stroll to visit the farm while savoring a beautiful sunset. As evening falls, indulge in a delightful dinner and experience a peaceful night sleeping in a hammock, just like the locals do.
Included for the day:
Cycling: +50km
Tour guide: English-speaking guide
Meals: lunch, dinner
Accommodation: A hammock at the farmhouse (or choose a comfortable tent option if preferred)
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the farmhouse, savoring fresh local flavors. After bidding farewell to your hosts, we’ll hop back on our bikes and head towards Phuk Market. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the local culture as you explore vibrant stalls filled with vendors selling an array of goods. This is also the perfect opportunity to taste famous snacks like deep-fried crickets, water bugs, grasshoppers, and traditional cakes, giving you a true taste of the region.
Next, we’ll ride to the Angkor Silk Farm, where you’ll have the chance to see the entire silk-making process firsthand. From the cultivation of mulberry trees to feed the silkworms to the delicate stages of spinning and weaving, you’ll witness the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into producing exquisite silk. You’ll learn about each step, including how the cocoons are harvested and transformed into beautiful fabric, highlighting the rich tradition of silk production in Cambodia.
After this insightful visit, we’ll head to a local house for a hands-on cooking class, where you can learn to prepare authentic Khmer dishes and enjoy the fruits of your labor for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll continue our ride through charming villages to Tonle Sap Lake. Here, you’ll embark on a local boat to explore the fascinating floating village, where you’ll gain insight into the daily lives of villagers living in floating houses and witness their unique way of life. Once we finish our boat tour, we’ll hop back on our bikes and proceed back to Siem Reap. Kris M2023-03-09 This is the way to experience Cambodia! Merry Travel/ Sam is an excellent tour guide and the tour is perfectly curated . You get to experience Cambodia authentically and at the ground level- the awesome ancient temples, the horrifying but important political history and the resilient, friendly people and their present day life/livelihoods. I cannot recommend Merry Travel and Sam enough! Our trip was a 10 out of 10! Trek7907062023-03-05 Just the right level of support Sam seems to intuitively know when to explain and when to let us discover things for ourselves. The discovery of Angkor Wat--truly one of the great treasures of humanity--unfolded flawlessly in this way: unhurried, flowing, and awe-inspiring. Thanks to Sam and the Merry Travel team for an unforgettable experience! I have taken 5 groups of students and 2 groups of adults. In addition, I have recommended at least 3 other friends to work with him. If you want professionalism and fairness, Sam is the person for you. Merry Travel is an outstanding business and I cannot applaud it enough. We did 3 days of cycling in Angkor Wat, then went to Phnom Penh and then Kampot. Sam worked out all the transfers and we had excellent guides, including Sam himself. He knows what it takes to make the customer happy and he is very even-keeled in his approach.
