And continue driving to Stung Treng, a quiet town with limited appeal, but sees a lot of transit traffic heading north to Laos. The town itself is a rather rundown affair, with its major asset being spectacular sunsets and friendly people. The one attraction of sorts is a weaving co-operative at the eastern extremity of town, which is worth visiting both for its lovely fabrics and to support a worthwhile cause. Check in to your selected hotel and the remainder of the day at your own leisure or opt to explore the town with your guide and vehicle, wandering the surroundings and view sunset from the peaceful place.

Day 3: Stung Treng – Preah Vihear (175km)
Take a short boat trip down to O’Svay where we will start our paddling tours to explore the Ramsar Wetlands area. It stretches south along the Mekong River from the border with Laos to Stung Treng. Only accessible by boat, it is a haven for critically endangered mammals, birds and fish with a unique riverine flooded forest system that is a photographer’s dream. With only birdcalls announcing our presence, we maneuvered our way leisurely downstream for a couple of hours before reaching the only village on this stretch of the river, Veun Sien, where we beach our kayak for lunch break. Our paddling tour of the forest continues until one point that you feel enough, and then we return back to O’Svay by boat before heading onward to Preah Vihear province.
Meals included: Lunch
Accommodation: Hotel in Preah Vihear is included
Service includes: Vehicle, English speaking guide, Entrance fees, boat, Picnic lunch, cold water, and tissue.
Day 4: Preah Vihear – Siem Reap (170km)
Early morning wake up to catch a beauty of sunray and the fantastic cliff-top view of the Cambodia’s most dramatically situated Angkorian monument, 800m-long Prasat Preah Vihear is perched atop an escarpment in the Dangrek Mountains – with breathtaking views of lowland Cambodia, stretching as far as the eye can see. Drive down the hill and continue an hour onward to the abandoned to the forests, Koh Ker temple, and capital of the Angkorian Empire from AD 928 to AD 944. Reach the sprawling jungle temple of Beng Mealea. Constructed in a distinctly Angkor Wat style by King Suyavarman II in the early 12th century, Beng Mealea preceded and may have served as a prototype for Angkor Wat. Contrary to Angkor, few carvings or bas-reliefs are evident. Today the temple is largely overrun by vegetation and the stone walls are crumbling which adds to its charm in a unique way. Accessibility has improved as elevated walkways have been set up throughout most of the temple, although to see all corners does require a sense of adventure as you will need to climb over stone blocks or walk through narrow passageways. Driver on to Siem Reap.
Meals included: Picnic lunch at Koh Ker
Service includes: English Speaking Guide, A/C vehicle, cold water/towel, entrance fees.
Kris M2023-03-09 This is the way to experience Cambodia! Merry Travel/ Sam is an excellent tour guide and the tour is perfectly curated . You get to experience Cambodia authentically and at the ground level- the awesome ancient temples, the horrifying but important political history and the resilient, friendly people and their present day life/livelihoods. I cannot recommend Merry Travel and Sam enough! Our trip was a 10 out of 10! Trek7907062023-03-05 Just the right level of support Sam seems to intuitively know when to explain and when to let us discover things for ourselves. The discovery of Angkor Wat--truly one of the great treasures of humanity--unfolded flawlessly in this way: unhurried, flowing, and awe-inspiring. Thanks to Sam and the Merry Travel team for an unforgettable experience! I have taken 5 groups of students and 2 groups of adults. In addition, I have recommended at least 3 other friends to work with him. If you want professionalism and fairness, Sam is the person for you. Merry Travel is an outstanding business and I cannot applaud it enough. We did 3 days of cycling in Angkor Wat, then went to Phnom Penh and then Kampot. Sam worked out all the transfers and we had excellent guides, including Sam himself. He knows what it takes to make the customer happy and he is very even-keeled in his approach.
